The city of Zapopan is in the Guadalajara metropolitan area, only 8 km northwest of Downtown Guadalajara. Zapopan is an important economic center, composed of electronics manufacturing, agriculture, and service sectors, and is one of the major producers of corn in the country. The center of Zapopan is dominated by the incredible Basilica de Zapopan (dating back to 1730) and the beautiful main plaza; which may be one of the most pleasant spots to relax and get away from ir all in the Guadalajara area.
